About the event

Have you ever wanted to learn how to thoughtfully decorate and personalize all of the beautiful fabrics in your life, from clothes to accessories, housewares, and standalone art pieces, with the traditional art of embroidery? Do you want to learn how to create embroidered work, both beautiful and resilient, that you'll be proud to hang on your wall, wear from your closet, or hand down to future generations? Look no further --your ticket to your first embroidery adventure is right here, taught at the Siding 14 Gallery under the professional mentorship and guidance of Heather Gray / @the_creative_cut!

Heather (she/her) is a multi-faceted artist with a love, in particular, for anything that involves a needle and thread – needlework (crewel, embroidery, cross stitch and more), seamstress, upholstery and leather work. She also plays with acrylic and watercolour paints, stained glass and traditional Maritime rug hooking. Now newly retired, she has time to share her passions with others. Heather’s sense of fun and love for exploring new art forms will most certainly get you excited about your learning adventure!

In her intro course, you will learn:

  • The most important embroidery stitches that will allow you to stitch any picture or piece of clothing successfully.
  • Ways to stop and start your work (yes, there are different techniques that make your work look better!)
  • Transfer methods so you can create your own designs.
  • Fabric samples to show you the variety of surfaces you can stitch on and cheaper ways to find beautiful fabric.
  • Ways to mount and finish your work from fancy to simple including turning your work into patches.
  • All those little tips and tricks that only a seasoned stitcher will know!

Pre-registration is required to attend this event. Please note that attendees must be 16+ years of age. No supplies are required -- everything will be provided for you upon arrival, including an embroidery hoop, floss, needle, needle threader and enough fabric for both your practice runs and your next personal project!
