About the event

Linocut, a type of block-printing performed by inking and pressing with an image hand-carved into a linoleum block, is a popular art form that has boomed since its invention in the 20th century, particularly with the fame of prized block-print pieces from the works of Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse. Appreciated for its versatility and ease of carving (as linoleum lacks the grain of traditional wood, allowing for smooth carving in all directions), linocut allows for the full expression of the artist's imagination, pressed lovingly onto the page -- making it a perfect art for everyone from hobbyists to stamp-loving scrapbookers to professional visual artists looking for a new medium through which to showcase their work with full-sized decorative prints! And now, you too can learn the intricate traditions of linocut carving, making your own 4x6 print under the professional guidance of local block-print artist Laeta Morskate!

Laeta (she/her) is a linocut artist, painter, and illustrator living and working in Ponoka, Alberta, where she runs her passion project (and personal studio!) The Crow Restaurant and Pub. Her artwork features the intricacies of animal and insect life, with bold and vibrant shapes and colours, which she prints onto everything from handmade Lokta paper, to notebooks, to stickers you can display anywhere! A patient, kind, and wise instructor, Laeta will be the perfect mentor for your first foray into the endless possibilities of lino!

Paid pre-registration is required to attend this event. Please note that this course is limited to participants 16+ years of age. All supplies included -- just bring yourself and a desire to learn!
